Dr. Penney serves as the team physician for many local area high schools. He has established athletic trainer programs in most of them and continues to help recruit to fill vacancies in others. This, in conjunction with a sound physical therapy partnership, provides the foundation of a first-rate sports medicine program providing care to the student-athletes of Torrington and surrounding communities.

He also serves as the sports medicine consultant to a nationally-recognized dance school and a summer, wood bat college baseball team, both based in Torrington.
