Surgical Procedures
These intra-operative images depict a sampling of some of the
complex arthroscopic procedures that Dr. Penney performs in his
practice.
Lateral Menisectomy
A radial tear of the lateral meniscus within the mid-body portion
is depicted in the first arthroscopic photo. The tear is clearly
demonstrated by the probe in photo 2, which is displacing the posterior
leaflet. Photo 3 shows the tear removed, with a smooth residual
meniscal border and excellent contour.
ACL Reconstruction
The first two pictures depict the knee with the torn Anterior
Cruciate Ligament still in place. Photo 3 shows the torn ligament
removed and the bone prepared for placement of the ACL graft. Photo
4 shows the graft secured in place.

Ankle Arthroscopy
The first arthroscopic picture depicts a cartilaginous loose
body within the ankle. Photo 2 shows the donor site (where the
loose body came from). Picture 3 demonstrates a microfracture procedure
in progress. Photo 4 shows the finished procedure that is designed
to stimulate new cartilage growth.
Arthroscopic SLAP & Bankart Reconstruction
The labrum is a ring of cartilage around the shoulder socket
that can tear after a dislocation or similar injury. In this sequence
of photos, the labrum has torn away from the bone more than halfway
around the glenoid. The first two photos show the tear initially
and the second two images demonstrate the repaired labrum after
sutures have been tied arthroscopically.
Lateral Meniscal Repair
The first photo demonstrates a "bucket-handle" lateral meniscus
tear in the knee. A probe is utilized in photo 2 to demonstrate
the torn posterior portion of the meniscus and highlight its good
vascular supply. The final two arthroscopic photos demonstrate
the repaired meniscus with all-inside sutures placed.
